Artist Statement

I am interested in making visible the intimate emotions carried by women across the roles they are expected to inhabit: mother, worker, wife, caregiver, woman. Through figurative painting, I create surreal scenes to expose these roles - often presented as natural or freely chosen - yet profoundly shaped by social expectations, inherited structures and forms of control. I explore how this hidden psychological world leaves its marks on the body and psyche.

My paintings often begin as visions arising in moments of reverie. I translate these first impressions onto the canvas through exploratory charcoal drawings, building the composition from visual references and imagined spaces. An acrylic underpainting allows me to establish structure, value and spatial boundaries, while subsequent layers of oil paint introduce atmosphere, depth and emotional weight.

Colour plays a central role in this process. Informed by my cultural background, I use saturated colour to heighten the psychological intensity of the image and strengthen its emotional presence. The final painting is never fully predetermined; it develops through a living dialogue with the canvas, allowing the image to respond, shift and gradually reveal its own resolution.
